February 3, 2008 | Two Smart Dogs

ProvenceAbsorb the culture and ambiance of this fabled corner of France during the week-long National Geographic Expeditions photography workshop: “On Assignment in Provence” (September 19 - 25, 2008). Ancient Roman architecture, bustling outdoor markets and festivals, breathtaking landscapes and gardens all provide endless photographic and learning opportunities.

The tour itinerary is based out of Arles, with day-trip shooting excursions planned to Nimes, St. Remy, and the Abbey du Montmajour. Your photographic work will flourish through formal instruction, group critiques, and independent exploration of this captivating region through the lens of your favorite camera. Elegant hotel accommodations and fine dining round out this European adventure.

“On Assigment in Provence” is led by award-winning photographers Sisse Brimberg and Cotton Coulson. Partners in work and in marriage, Brimberg and Coulson have spent most of their careers working in Europe, collectively shooting over 50 stories for National Geographic magazine and National Geographic Traveler – from the Arctic and Scandinavia, to Italy and France.

This workshop is geared towards digital photography and includes additional instruction on downloading, saving, organizing and archiving images, as well as formatting and manipulating images on the computer. Participants should bring their own digital SLR camera, laptop computer and editing software.
