2657 S. Van Buren Place, West Adams, Los Angeles
Free and open to the public
On Saturday, April 26, the Los Angeles/Santa Monica Mountains chapter of the California Native Plant Society is sponsoring a public talk on the use of native plants by the well-known garden expert Lili Singer. This lecture is being held in conjunction with a house and garden tour of the historic 1910 Tudor Craftsman House at 2657 S. Van Buren Place in West Adams. The Craftsman House is on the Secretary of the Interior’s list of historic places and is a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument. Its garden features native plantings, as well as an English cottage style front garden.
In her talk, Lili Singer will discuss what a “native” plant is, how to choose the best California natives for your garden and simple ways to get them established and keep them thriving. Native flora with special characteristics - wildlife value, fragrant foliage, and colorful flowers - will be showcased.
Singer is one of Southern California’s most distinguished native plant experts. She writes regularly on horticulture for the Los Angeles Times and was the long-time host of The Garden Show on KCRW FM.
The lecture and tour are cosponsored by the Theodore Payne Foundation, which will be selling native plants, books, and seeds at the event. Experienced native plant gardeners from the California Native Plant Society and the Theodore Payne Foundation will be available to answer questions. Call (818) 881-3706 for additional information or visit the West Adams web site.
